Putting the pig back together, slowly. Bought a new stereo for it off of ebay that uses CDs, SD cards, & USB sticks. ;p In the process of installing it, I forgot about the interferance problem I had with my last stereo. The stereo hits the defrost pipe that is under the dash just behind the opening for the stereo. I got it to work, but the stereo will not seat into the opening fully because the right side of the stereo is hard up against the defrost duct pipe. Anyone have a work around for the defrost pipe short of cutting it out?

Hi Bill,

I removed the center vent and installed my stereo there. Works prefect and if I need air during summer I roll my windows down anyway.

I just cut out a small section and reversed the part i cut out and rewelded it in .only took out 10 % . then i made a box to set the radio out flush with the dash .

I just notched the radio box and took a small section out of the heater duct behind it and it slid in fine. I didn't need to but I tack welded the radio cage into the old hole as well...

Hmm, build a box and let the stereo stick out a bit? Sounds good to me.

The bling is good ! but the quality did not live up to the flight i took in pismo ! . soon after the cd stoped working and one of the ic~s on the main board came unsoldered .
When i took it out a whole lotta dirt sure found its way inside . It got cleaned and reinstalled minus the cd unit , the transporter for the disc is shot and 150 bucks to fix so for now i will just have to leave it on XM .

I remember that heater duct...think I found it was just a little bit in the way, put a long punch and the 3# sledge to it and made room for the stereo. And you're getting pretty close to the windshield wiper mechanism too. Evan's idea for not pushing the unit all the way into the dash solves both of those.

Bill... I have the photo's now... but someone else is going to need to bring the file sizes down before they can be posted. I have another thread to post them is too.

Mini, you can email them to me and I will doctor them up.

Pighead, your right, the wiper rod is close also. I think I will build out the box. Good idea.

mine is mounted flush like DCH (dre) did. my old radio bit the dust from dust, so the new one i built a foam box in the dash for it, like a foam air filter with the open cell that can breath and vent heat for the unit. i take it out to clean it after every off road trip and it stays pretty dust free.
