I purchased a 2001 LC with approximately 86,000 miles on it last July out of Portland Oregon. Imported it to Canada and drove it basically as far west as you can get. Masset on Haida Gwaii. I've been living here for the past 2 years working with the Fed Government and am done my stint this summer.
So far I'm loving the Land Cruiser and look forward to slowly building it up over the next few years. That being said one of the first things I did was pop in a new stereo. It took some help from a buddy but we managed to replace and wire all new speakers the head unit, a overhead DVD player and pop in a small 8" powered sub under the passenger front seat. (Sound Ordnance B-8PT)
Which by the way I love. I'm not an audiophile but for the cost and ease of install it perfectly suited my needs without losing any space.
Ok to the tip... getting through the firewall.
In regards to installing a stereo. Getting through the firewall is easy. I'm sure anyone with experience could have told me that but in case you are like me and are wondering what the heck to do there is a large rubber thru fitting on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Don't try yo take it off, don't try and carve your own hole. Just locate the small un-used nipple near the bottom, cut off the tip and push through your power cable. You'll come out right under the glove box. Clearly that's why the designers put it there.
I wish I had known this prior.
Love the forums. Good work guys.
