Hey there guys,

Have ordered a Scosche TA021 adapter harness which is supposed to fit my 85 FJ60 per the description here.

TA021 - https://www.scosche.com/1981-up-toyota-vehicles-harness

The connectors just do not fit.

Anyone know of an adapter harness that works? Just ordered the Metra 70-1398.

Last ditch, I will have to wire the harness and remove the connectors from the stock harness.

Your gonna have to connect the wires manually or maybe @ToyotaMatt might have something.
I dont thing a plug'n play harness exists for our landcruisers. I could be wrong but Ive never heard of one

I'm gonna get roasted for this, but since the only factory wires I use anymore (the speaker wires I completely removed from the harness years ago since I use an amplifier) are IGN, +12, GND, dash light, and remote turn on (which I added) for the amp, I replaced the factory connectors with GM/Delphi Weather Pack 3-pin and 2-pin connectors. Now when I install a head unit I just need to install leads for mating Weather Pack connectors to the pigtail that plugs directly into the unit. No butt connectors or any hackneyed connections.

All the terminals are soldered too for the sake of a strong, reliable electrical connection.

I went to these guys, www.vintageconnections.com and made changes to the radio harness. the one thing that didn't work was using the single ground for the speakers. Had to run new wiring to speakers with new connectors that look like the old ones.

@bxadook are you putting a new radio in the old space?

@regretful yep, plan was to put in an aftermarket headunit. The metra 70-1398 does not work either. I realize now there is no way to create an adapter harness for this now because of the lack of a 12V constant, and the common ground shared by the speakers which these modern head units want a separate ground at the connector. Having a shop do this locally. @ToyotaMatt it looks good but I should have explained my plan above :)

@ToyotaMatt The ability to podcast or listen to music I want to listen to is something I hold near and dear to me. It's where I get a lot of my post-graduate education from :)

I use one of these, hidden away. In a 40, it makes a stock am/fm loud enough to hear while on the highway, probably don't have that problem in a 60. Easily connects to your phone for podcasts, streaming.

I've found the more modern radios I have worked on (not that many) use two stereo integrated circuits. One is set up as an inverting amp driving the (-), the other as a non inverting amp driving the (+). This requires separate grounds for each speaker.

th @Engineer8000 / CAN help you , listen to his suggestions and pursue your pipe dreams with his help

@bxadook I felt the same way as you. There is nothing special about the Toyota head unit other than the looks. I looked into the bluetooth, usb, digital upgrade of the stock radio, (which I still have) and the cost was outrageous. My 60 is not going to Pebble Beach. So I got a Sony head unit (DIN), had the bracket from @coultl printed with the surround. I attached a three wire connector for acc, gound and 12v constant to the wiring harness of the radio. The acc, and ground went to a two wire connector that I plugged into the original harness. The 12v constant wire from the harness went to a single connector that I connected to positive wire from trouble light plug located next to glove box. At first I used the original wiring for the speakers but that sounded terrible. I then used a four wire connector off of the head unit for the front speakers and another for the rear. Each speaker had a two wire connector. The terminals are the 6.3mm ones used by Toyota and the connectors look to be Yazaki. The only wires that I cut from the harness were the ones leading to original speakers.

I kinda went geeky and used a ratcheting crimper with the correct insert for the terminals.

Hope this helps.
