I have a 2000 LX470. I found a steering wheel from an 06 that has the audio controls and the colors match mine.

I have heard 03+ won't fit a 98-02. But then again I've also heard they will. My steering wheel harness has additional plugs I've always assumed were for steering wheel controls. Can I make this work?

Yes.

You will need a clock spring that has the additional wires for the steering controls, so long as steering controls were an option in 2000 and the additional wiring is for them.

The steering wheel will physically fit even without the controls being functional.

I added steering controls to my Tacoma by changing the clock spring and steering wheel. I used a steering wheel out of a 2011 Camry in it.

What about an 03+ wheel on a 2000 but keeping the 2000 cover. Will the bag and cover fit up to the spokes correctly without leaving a gap or being out of alignment?

Specifically, I'd love to get this wheel and use it on my 2000.

Visually (no first hand knowledge) I think there would be some issues. Look at the offset where the lower two spokes transition from leather to the internals under the cover. The 2000 cover has an attachment point that clips around the black rubber part in the pic below. Also, not sure about what appear to be some sort of locating pin hole for each spoke on the later model wheel - are those surfaces raised? I bought and used the wheel below for my 2000 LX. Providing so the two styles can be compared.

Thanks. Yes, I've seen that wheel on ebay as well. It's better than stock, but it's just not as nice as the 03+

Is there an easy way to find out if your vehicle is wired for steering wheel controls? I have a 2000 LX470

Well, I fully stand corrected. Read quote below:

In short, if ANYONE tells you that they are the same or they are interchangable, they are either ignorant or lying because they are flat-out wrong.

Who's Interested - REPLACEMENT LEATHER for the Steering Wheel - NOT A COVER

It's a long thread, and the pics I had hosted on my old webpage are now gone. The text describing what I discovered is there, though. Just skip to about page 4 or so for the relevant info you're looking for - OR just look at the four pics below.

The clock spring interface that is cast into the wheel is not the same from 98-2002. The 2003-2007 LC uses the same clock spring as the Tundra/Sequoia/Sienna steering wheels. The 1998-2002 wheels had a Land Cruiser / LX470 casting ONLY and no other wheel will fit that I know of.

Early LC/LX Steering Wheel Clock Spring Interface vs. 2003+ LC/LX + Tundra/Sequoia/Sienna type wheel. Look at the casting shape on the BACK of the wheel.
