After alot of wondering what that darn clunking noise is going down the road, I have found alot of slop in the steering shaft universals. My question is what should I do, buy some new universals and put them in or buy a used shaft refurbish it and put it in, keep in mind my shaft is pretty hurtin it's been throgh 19 cdn winters. Also anyone that has done this before, how is it done, any tips or trick to doing it?

cheers
thanks for any help, I know there was a thread about this in the past, If anyone knows where it is don't be affriad to tell me.

Just find which u joint it is, grab each shaft with a pair of vice grips, or have someone turn teh wheel and you watch which joint it is. Once you find it - replace it. Kind of a tight area depending on where it is so it best to remove the shaft sometimes.

Good luck!

both are pretty loose, what is the best way of removing the shaft? Isn't the shaft supposed to move in and out, I think mine being seized is causing the universals extra load.

Go to birfield.com and get the FSM, that tells you howto take it apart. Just pour the peniletrant to it for a couple of days and it will come out. might have to use some heat too.

Regards
