I'm wondering what is causing most of the failures. I'm assuming it has something to do with either the weight of larger tires or the angle of the rack after a lift. When they fail is it just seals, or something else?

It's usually the end output shafts that slowly fail. Lifts and bigger tires probably won't help things, but all 100s will need a new rack sooner or later.

Watch out for Canadian built RX's, have certain parts fail way earlier than the Japanese built ones. Especially the 2004-2009. I guess they source parts from different manufacturers.
