How much different should my steering in my 97 be compared to my Range Rover and my 4Runner? In the LC it seems to take some effort to steer it, and then I get in one of the other vehicles and it's like I can steer it with one finger. (Only when the Rangie is running) I figure there is some difference because of the AWD, but maybe there is something I need to look at.

never driven either of those so I cant say, my 80 seams about right has about the same steering effort as my '01 3/4 ton Chvey had, not 1 finger light but not heavy either, my 89 Caddy had one finger steering,

it is smooth and consistant throughout its travel? any noise?

Literally speaking, I've seen a Patrol whose steering could be turned with one finger when stationary. My LC80 needs a bit of arm to do the same, but I find the LC's steering preferable. I never did like those one finger steerings. They scare me at highway speeds.

I drive lots of cars and trucks, being in the car business. The FJ-80 has pretty tight steering compared to most. I notice the same when I get into my Land Rover LR-3 company car.

All three of my 80's have been the same, a little harder to turn than a car but still smooth. I rented a Discovery for a few weeks and was impressed with the ease of turning the wheel, but was very unhappy with the turning radius.

Tip - I find angling the steering wheel flat in the 80 provides much better leverage and a rest for the shoulders on long drives and any other fatigue situations, like driving on soft sand.

80 should be "heavier" than most.

My 40 is one-finger at a standstill. I like the 80 better. Easy to oversteer with too much boost.
