So I finally got around to pulling the steering box and rebuilding it. Only took me about 5 years LOL. I love everything about my LC except for the fuel economy and the sloppy steering. I have done all the "things" before tearing into the steering box to try and resolve the loose steering with no help. All new bushings, bearings, stabilizer, tie rods etc. I tried adjusting the adjustment screw as well before tearing things apart with no help. Anyhow I needed to rebuild the box since it had a leak at the input shaft seal. All went well for the most part except for installing the power piston and tearing the new Teflon seal. Crap.. remove the piston, order new seals and next time installing I wrapped a hose clamp around it tightened it down and stuck it in the freezer for a few hrs. It went in no problems the second time around. Got it all put back together and checked the input shaft for play. As you can see in the video it has a bit of play in it. It turns a bit with no movement on the sector shaft. I am afraid I am going to install this box and see no change in the steering feel. I fear my sector shaft and power piston have worn to the point where there is just play and nothing can be done except for a new $2k steering box. That definitely is not in the budget any time soon. Any suggestions here from those of you that may have been down this road before? I did try tightening the preload a little more on the worm gear when I had it out. There was not much room to tighten it much more than it was just a hair of a turn more prevented the shaft from turning at all so I placed it back to my match marks..
