Figured id add two cents. Ended up having to tear the steering box out again. What should have been a five minute seal chang turned into an hour fiasco with a hammer and punch and no vice. :(

So here is what i think is the right/easy(lol) way.

Position the valve as such. You want the end of the screw thead pointing up.

Next instal piston as such. All the way up to the valve.

Sounds easy right? Ha

Now you take the steel balls and insert them one at a time, into the hole closest. Use a pick or something to push the ball up the track as you slightly wiggle the piston on the screw.

You eventually will push balls until they show in the other hole. Looks like 33 balls go into the piston.
Take the tube halfs, use a small amount of grease, i like dielectric, stick the remaining 11 balls into the tube. Join the halves and insert into the piston. This part can be a little tricky as you have to keep the balls from moving in the piston and tube as you join them

Once you get to this point. Put piston and valve back into housing. Operate screw. I got 4.3 turns lock to lock. If you dont end up here or have binding, balls are out and you need to go back and do over. ;)

You always have all the fun :flipoff2:

If you push your balls so far in that you can see them out your other hole I think you've got some other problems there.

When I experience binding balls I pull my pants back down and start over. If I don't get enough coffee in the morning this will frequently occur.

Don't come crying to me when all your balls fall out. :flipoff2:
