Figured id add two cents. Ended up having to tear the steering box out again. What should have been a five minute seal chang turned into an hour fiasco with a hammer and punch and no vice. 
So here is what i think is the right/easy(lol) way.
Position the valve as such. You want the end of the screw thead pointing up.
Next instal piston as such. All the way up to the valve.
Sounds easy right? Ha
Now you take the steel balls and insert them one at a time, into the hole closest. Use a pick or something to push the ball up the track as you slightly wiggle the piston on the screw.
