When I get home I'm planning to build a plank top work bench. I want to be able to weld on it (no room for a seperate welding table) so my plan is to put a thermal blanket on top, with a sheet of 3/16" steel over that. At this point I'm planning a 6'x3' top, and I want to have the steel overlap 1" on all four sides so I can fold them down and secure the top to the table.

Soooo my question is; does anyone know of a steel supplier in the local area that won't cost me an arm and a leg for a 74"x38" sheet with the 1" portion of each side bent down at 90 degrees?

I get most of my stuff from Pacific Steel & Recycling. Of course, there's not many options in Sandpoint. You can usually get a good deal out of their scrap pile if you can find what you want.

They may, I scored a bunch of sheets to make some work benches back from their tri-cities store a few years ago.

Well it's worth a shot I guess. Hopefully if I can't find what I want in their scrap yard, they can cut me a fresh piece for not too much.
