When starting the 2000 4runner after it's sat for a long time ( many hours / overnight):
- insert key
-turn to 'start'
- dash lamps illuminate
-no solenoid/starter noise, not even clunk

BUT, if gas pedel stepped on, everything works , rig starts . . .

If rig stopped for few minutes to an hour, this quirk doesn't seem to happen...

We've checked battery connections (battery is aboput 1 yr old), wires under hood, etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Pete (oh, it's my son's rig - on other side of Fla from me...
I'm trying to 'fix over the phone')

Bad cold start injector is my best guess. If you pull the little cold start hose off you can see if any gas comes out on initial start. Just be careful, because if it works you will spray gas into the engine bay.

I just noticed the year of your son's truck. Unless he is running the 3vze it may not be so easy to pull the hose off the cold start injector. I am not familiar with the later motor they put in the 4runner, sorry. It may be just as simple though.

Thanks John for the reply . . .

The quirk is that the 'starter doesn't seem to get electricity';
that is, no clicks/clunks/ etc.

Would this 'cold start injector' issue "control" the starter motor power ?

( danged new-fangled EEEElectronic geeezomz ! )

My FJ60 has fuses,,,,about as close to electronic as I care to have :)
