I desmogged the 2F over the winter. I had the carb and dizzy done by Jim C. I was able to get her started a few days ago, but I had zero oil pressure. The problem was the dizzy was not engaging the oil pump all the way. I got oil pressure now, but she won't start. I get what appears to be white smoke puffing out of the top of the carb. It could be water vapor as I haven't started her up since 30 Oct. I put 5 gallons of fresh gas in her and a bottle of heat. Any thoughts?

Step by Step

As with any starting problem begin with the basics:

-Confirm you are getting spark

-Confirm you are getting fuel

From there start to tweak things. If you are getting spark confirm that you installed the dizzy correctly and set the timing close enough to get it running. From the de-smog confirm that you closed off any potential vaccume leaks.

Best of luck,

Gordo

Sean,
What Gordo said, with a special emphasis on spark timing. Make sure it is actually getting a healthy spark at one of the plugs. Then try to verify that it makes a spark near the dot. This can be done w/ a good timing light while cranking the engine.

Simple test for fuel: If it is not flooded, try spraying carb cleaner down the carb while cranking. If it is not getting fuel, it will fire & try to run on the carb cleaner.

The dizzy was 180* off (whoops :D). Flipped her around and now she's running like a raped ape!
