I have a 1980 fj40, I purchased it already taken apart, engine is in the frame. I would like to try and start it without the wiring harness etc. Is it possible and easy to do. I would like to assess the engine quality and try and start it to know what I am in for.
I think the engine has not run in over a year, was told it did run and the way it was stored I 100% believe it did.
Oil in the pan looks new, engine looks to have been protected when body removed, carb covered etc. It turns over by hand. My plan is to remove plugs and turn over some, check compression, see if it will fire on gas/starter fluid, it it fires install radiator, fluid and get gas into the carb and see if it will run for a few seconds so I can hear it.
I have looked at this post by Coolerman, will this work on a 1980 engine or is there something more needed or that year.
