Starter Motor internal contact fix

My experience of Landcruisers shows me that Toyota trucks often use interchangeable parts to create starter motors - an electric motor, a magnetic switch, a gear box and an adaptor to hold the whole thing onto a particular engine. Different (power) motors and different ratio gears (from 1:1 to 1:4) are matched to the starting requirements for different engines.
Here (in Australia) the high current contacts in the magnetic switch for 40 and 60 series landcruisers are becoming impossible to source, so when my starter refused to run and the dealer quoted $500 for a replacement starter I measured the worn contacts and made my own for $1.00
I have attached a diagram that includes the measurements I made. Fabrication is very easy with soft copper sheet.

Where did you get your soft copper sheet? The diagram you provided is great and I see that you do not need the wings for the contact points for the starter to work. Check my contact points on this starter that I found in the junkyard, they don't have wings but just plain squared copper sheets.

I'll bet you could get the contact points at any shop that rebuilds starters. Or buy one that is close in dimension and modify as needed.

Get small off-cuts of 3mm copper sheet at any metal recycler for a few cents.
If it isn't annealed (soft) simply heat to red-hot and cool. Any black copper oxide that forms will flake off as the metal shrinks while cooling.

These contacts are that cheap easy to find it would not be worth the effort to make your own. If you cant find any go to any auto electrician and they should have them in stock and sell them over the counter
