Last night I spent under the cruiser. Usually a good way to spend and evening, but not when you spend several hours on 2 bolts with only 50% success. Who ever was the last one to install a starter on my truck put it on with such force I am unable to remove even with an impact wrench. Now the compressor and wrench might be a little older, but never have I had this much trouble. Anyone who has a similiar difficulties knows that the top bolt is accessible (sort of) with an extension or two through the engine bay. I am open to any suggestions or if anyone owns the biggest strongest bad a$$ compressor/impact wrench set up. Thanks Aj:wrench:

AJ,
First, be sure you are on the starter bolt and not a bellhousing bolt. Both should come out easily but the starter won't come out if you remove a bellhousing bolt.

Next, use a 1/2" breaker and a cheater if you need it. It is possible the PHH has been leaking and that bolt has corroded or something. They usually come out easily. Spray liberally with Kroil, Toyopeen, or PB Blaster and let it soak for several hours. Reapply as needed, then go to the 1/2" breaker. I don't recommend an impact for the starter bolts but you're welcome to borrow my IR 2115 if you think that will help.

AJ,
Mine took quite a bit to get out too, gotta keep at it.
IIRC I went though the wheel well for the top bolt. As Beo said, lots of oil and 1/2 breaker. I did have to get creative to get mine out as well.
Let me know if you need more help....

Mike, where were you when I changed my starter? I thought I reached the right bolt and it would not come out. I was ready to get something to cut it off, but took an extra minute and figured it out.

Yeah i was expecting this to be a very easy 2 bolts and a plug kinda job. For some reason this is not the first bolt on the cruiser that has been way overtightened. Someone obviously thought tighter was better. Luckily, through a friends connection at a dealer was able to put a larger compressor behind a newer impact wrench to remove the offending bolt. PHH looks ok so far. Thanks for the suggestions, i did soak the crap out of it with oil, i am sure we just lossened it for the larger impact wrench.
