Has anyone here used any of the after market throttle body fuel injections kits? I have most of the stuff to do TBI on my truck, but the wiring has always scared me enough to keep me from actually putting it on. I also had a friend who had a 350 TBI on his CJ8 that he had trouble with all the time, couldn't get it to run right.

My cruiser runs fine with a carb but I really want fuel injection. I saw these stand alone kits and started thinking that might be the way to go, although they are not cheap, they look simple and easy to install and get working right. I'm just wondering if anyone here has used them on a cruiser or anything else and what they think of it.

Howell EFI, Custom EFI's and several others can provide you with all of the parts necessary to convert your truck to EFI, be it a 2F, or a 350. These kits use factory GM components, for the most part, so finding replacement parts out in the boonies is easy to do. With a stand alone system like a FAST Efi or to a lesser extent, Holley or Edelbrock, these use more customized parts, which may be diffciult to find.

An advantage to the stand alone systems is that they are highly tuneable, which is great for a racing engine, but really for what we're doing with Land Cruisers, its really not necessary.

I used a Howell harness for my TBI and I have never had any troubles with it at all. Granted mine was not a aftermarket fuel injection kit it was a TBI to start with. The harness has everthing you need and it very simple to install and work on if needed. I was really worried about the wiring too but after doing it I would never run a carb again in anything.

Good to know, I have everything BUT the harness to convert mine to factory GM TBI, but am scared to death of messing with that harness. I had the stock harness, but the mice ate it. :( I wanted to use an aftermarket harness anyway.

I will look into the Howell ones, I only knew of the painless ones off the top of my head but it's been a few years since I picked up all the parts and researched it. It's hard to want to tear into something that's already running good and risk messing it up.. but I REALLY want EFI.

I've started to go through a stock harness. Doesn't seem so bad once you start.

Hi All:

Are you looking at doing a TBI swap onto a 2F or a SBC?

Painless has a TBI wiring harness for SBC V-8s that installs in parallel with the stock wiring harness.

I've heard good things about the 2F TBI kit from Affordable Fuel Injection, it is s suppose to be very easy to install.

Good luck!

Alan

Are you currently running EFI/TBI on your Land Cruiser?

Man, I used to be scared of wiring too, but, it turns out I was just inexperienced. If a I can make a complex 2uz work in my cruiser I think about anyone can make a TBI unit work. Go pull a harness out of a donor, find a diagram for said donor, get a multimeter and some nice crimps both butt and delphi, and take your time. You'll have it running in no time :) I got all my wiring supplies and tools from waytek wire, they have really nice relay/fuse boxes that I used.

I ended up using a Howell harness that worked out great(except no power to fuel pump....odd) everything was labeled, plug and play. I'm no wire guru so I figured I would save time with wiring and save money on other parts in the 350/60. 2cents.

I see you are running a 305 TBI. I have a 305 with a Quadrajet. What carb did you run before the TBI? Did you notice any differences in fuel economy before/after the switch?

Edit: actually I just realized you said it was TBI to start with. What do you get for fuel mileage?

I get about 2 days of wheelin in. I am not real sure I really never paid much attention it takes quite awhile to get through a tank and it never gets below 1/4. It's my toy so I dont wanna ruin the fun by worring about MPG, makes me sick enough to fuel my truck.

I've been running a Holley Projection since 2005 in my 40 with no problems.
