I'm having some trouble with my A/C system not working. I have replaced the clutch (previous owner claimed this was why it wasn't working, should not have fallen for that one :o ), all o-rings, pulled 28 in of vacuum on the system for 30 minutes, and recharged the system. Unfortunately, the A/C still blows warm air. I know the compressor is working because it pulls and holds vacuum on the low side when running. My guess is a restriction somewhere in the system. Possibly drier, expansion valve, or orifice tube. Any thoughts?

Hey, Are your doors in your box switching back and forth. How much freion are you adding to the sys and where are your pressures at? Is the space between your condensor and radiator full of junk, that would cause it to not cool as well as I should.

If it pulls a vacuum and the system is charged It could be an expansion valve or just about anything. Probably best to pull your hoses off first and make sure you can blow air through the condensor, hoses and drier. If you can, then I think I would pull out the evaporator, clean it and replace the expansion valve. It's a very easy changeout compared to most cars.

Probably best just to it once and replace the drier and expansion valve anyway while you have it apart. R134 and R12 cost so much everytime you have to replace something and fill it again.

ALWAYS replace the filter/drier EVERYTIME you open the system. When you are doing what the others suggested do the fiter/drier too especially if the system was empty or open.

I've always heard that your supposed to do that but didn't when I refurbed my system earlier this summer and it now works great. What is the purpose of always replacing that part?

It catches all the crap that comes through the lines so when a compressor craps out and sends all sorts of stuff down the lines the filter drier is supposed to remove it. Think of it like the A/C system garbage can and when you replace it you are "emptying" it.

I second this. Shouldn't be pulling a vac on the low side when it's running. It should be running between 30-45 lbs, depending on what freon you are using. Good luck.

I just charged mine a few weeks ago, don't know how long it was out of commision, works great but the compressor is screaming, Is It BAGGED?

Because they are relatively cheap, I've ordered a drier and expansion valve. Since I'll be relacing them, I'll also go ahead and make the switch to R134. This is a great forum with lots of good info. Thanks for all the help!
