Hello - this morning I started my 2000 LC and brake light, abs light, and VSC lights came on. I have had no brake issues whatsoever, so my first thought was to check brake fluid level and it was fine. I then noticed that a !&@?!! a squirrel or mouse chewed through one of the wiring harnesses coming off the master cylinder. Are these available? I have been searching today and have not been successful finding anything. It is Sunday, so the dealership and salvages are closed. I drove the truck a few miles and brakes seemed normal. However, I'm afraid to drive it too much with the exposed wires for fear something will get fried and cause more damage. Any help or suggestion? Thanks!

That stinks! It reminds me of a couple of things. I saw a truck parked at a trailhead a few years ago with chicken wire wrapped round the bottom of it to keep the critters from doing exactly the same thing...and that has always left and impression. Addtionally, I eleminated a squirrel problem of them clawing and nibbling on part of my house, under the eaves, by creating a mixture of vaseline and cayanne pepper. The vaseline sticks to their paws and fur and when they go to lick it off..let's just say, it doesn't have a nutty flavor or after taste for the little buggers. So...my thought is...if you are going to park your car in squirrel country, how easy would it to be to dawn some plastic gloves and coat your cables with some vaseline and cayenne for preventive measure and piece of mind? Dirt may stick, but the squirrels won't nibble long!

Are any of the wires completely severed? If not, just get some electrical tape and insulate the exposed wires.

If you need to reconnect a severed wire, you can repair the wire with a small clamp and cover it with shrink tubing.

Buying a new harness sounds like overkill.
