... happens only when I first start the truck and rev into shifting range. Mainly happens in 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Doesn't happen a lot... but enough to get me to ask the question.

Long time, no see, by the way. New job = less time to post.

Thanks!

I now have a coolant leak somewhere. Taking a look from the front underside, I noticed some drips coming off/near the front main seal/bottom-most belt area. Could this leak be caused by a loose belt? I have had some coolant issues for a few weeks, but just noticed the leak tonight.

All the belts are free of coolant. The lower portion of the engine block in the front is pretty wet, however.

most leaks around there will work their way down to below the crank pulley. pressure test will tell for sure, but i'd say maybe your water pump is on the way out. you can check the belt by pulling back on it with your finger. it shouldn't deflect much. 1 or 2 mm. not sure what that is in inches. If it's fine, the water pump bearing could be stuffed.

The belt seems fine, so I assume it is the water pump going south. About how much am I looking at spending? I'll go through CDan.

Thanks for the help.

Well, I checked Napa and they have some resonably priced water pumps, but I'd rather keep it OEM depending on price. How many bananas am I dealing with here?

If you are going to be in there for the water pump you may also want to have a good look at the fan clutch. These are a common failure on higher mileage trucks that can lead to overheating issues.

I paid $70 for the OEM water pump from CDan a few months ago. Fan clutch was $145.

Thanks for the replies. How hard is it to remove/reinstall the water pump and fan clutch? I an OK mechanic, but will need to whip this change out in a weekend. This is my daily driver. Thanks again.

I flushed the system and replaced the radiator, water pump, fan clutch and hoses all the way back to the rear heater in a weekend. I'd guess that the water pump and fan clutch could be done in a day.

It is not bad at all and can be done without removing the radiator.
Remove the fan 1st and fan clutch 2nd and then you will have room to get the water pump out.

For the fan you will be working "blind" to get the 4 or 6 (can't remember) bolts out and it gets easier after that.

Awesome. This is good news. I put a call in to CDan. I asked him to quote me prices for:

Water Pump, Fan Clucth, All Radiator Hoses, and All Belts

I want to get most of this stuff out of the way with one go.

Thanks for the help.
