I don't know if someone has already been down this road but I thought I would check before I jumped down the rabbit hole.
I have a stock 08 gx470 and I am looking for a MILD suspension upgrade. very mild. Specifically I am looking to just replace the front springs only.
I like the ride quality from my perfectly function adjustable shocks, and my brand new rear air springs (not giving this up, I really like ride height compensation). but my front coils are toast and I'm hitting the stops way too often just around town. I know the J120 trucks had front forward rake on purpose for aerodynamics (presumably) and Im thinking that basically a 1 inch "leveling kit" is what Im after.
Questions:
1. What spring out there will give me the proper rate as to not make the ride harsh (stock V8 T4R rate would be fine, 590 lbs/in is what I'm reading) and also give me the extra 25 mm ride height to level out? Free height on the T4R V8 I hear is something like 644mm, so a 670 mm spring with stock rate.
I see OME has 2884 and up springs, but many places stock 2880-2883 springs that are supposedly the ones I want.
TJM has a 675 freeheight spring but they are claiming 40 mm raised and its a 17mm coil instead of the stock 16. Im 100% not opposed to just buying someone stock 4runner springs, but I don't know which ones would do the trick, since the T4R seems to have the same rake on 4th gen and the 5th gen springs aren't rated for the extra weight of the V8. Donnison has the C59-302 which they say gives the V8 T4R a 1.75 mm lift with a light load.
2. Can I reuse my stock struck with an taller spring? do the adjustable shocks have enough downtravel to accommodate a longer spring? Again, I don't want to give up my adjustable dampers, I'm really enjoying them, but I need a slightly taller spring to level things out and thats all.
Advice? I realize I could probably just buy stock V8 T4R springs and that would help the front sag a lot, but I don't think it would solve the issue outside of just replacing tired springs.
