I'm looking to replace the rear leaves on my BJ 46. I want to go with something longer then the originals which measure and 132.5 cm eye to eye along the curve of the spring. i'm hoping one of you good fellows can get me a measure of the rear 77 springs both along the curve as well as where the axle pin is located.

Thanks-

Pete

I don;t think the 46 and 76 spring are the same, not sure if that a a typo from forealboreal, you really need to check the measurement from eye to centre bolt and centre bolt to eye, BJ46 would be 650 + 675 centres, 76 series V8 diesel is 603 + 780, 77 series is the same as far as I know.

So the 7x springs total is 1383 (58mm longer than my bj46 measured along the curve of the spring) and it would move my axle forward 48mm. I like the longer length but I'm not keen on moving the axle forward.

Hmmm....

Are the LWB springs the same through the years?

Thanks. That's great information exactly what I need to know. I assume all the measure ments are front to rear division correct? For example

Hj75 front is 550 in the front portion of the spring and 590 in the rear-correct?

So thinking of grabbing a used set of hzj77 springs and drilling the perches to keep the axle in the original location more or less.

The hzj75 fronts would work well up front on my truck if I re-drill the second leaf and flip the pack front to rear. No 75's here in Japan though. Are the front 77's the same?

I am fairly sure most of the 70series leaf spring front suspension are similar. Measurements are front / rear of the spring. ID of the eyes are different between the 40 series and 70 series, getting bushes, pins and shackles etc to suit may be a problem as well as the clearance of the OD with the wraps etc. ensuring you get the shackle end right to suit the longer spring will be essential as if you get it wrong the spring will break if you haven't allowed the spring to extended properly. IMO you will be creating more issues than you are solving. Also set height will be the next problem.

What are you trying to achieve with the longer springs?

First off the springs and 40 series are super stiff. 60 series and 70 springs from what I can gather our good deal softer. Ultimately I'd like to lift the truck about 2 inches. Lift springs that will fit my truck are all pretty short. They're basically stock springs with about 1.5 cm added an arched for lift. They carry the same specifications in terms of spring rates at the stock springs but I put the shackle angle almost vertical.

My thought was to try some used 60 or 70 series springs on the cheap for fit get the shackles right etc. and then figure out the height issue. If there's no lift with the stock springs then I could buy 2 inch lift springs for a 77 for example.

Though the 70 series bushings are larger if they use the same diameter pin I should be able to fit them without a problem. The height issue is the big unknown.

My other option is simply buying lift springs made for the BJ 46 and pulling leaves until I get a more comfortable ride. This whole process stemmed from the fact that the same places that make the springs for the 46 also make springs for 77. So if I'm going to buy new springs I thought why not get a longer spring with more travel allowing a longer shackle as well.

But you're right and for the amount of work required to source stock leaves put them on and put them off just a fine that it's a no go realistically I probably just better to stick with lift Springs made for my truck.

I could get a 3 inch lift and pull leaves until end up with about 2 inches or I can get a 2 inch lift and pull some leaves until I have about an inch and a half.

IF you have a spring manufacture get them to make the main leaf and wrap longer for you, becarefull removing leaves can reduce th life of the spring. Getting a good shackle angle is important for a smooth ride. The leave don;t need to be to much longer to get the right angle, if you make them to long the shackle won't stand up.
