well in about a little over a week my body work hopefully will be done and ready for paint. i am paying this highschool kid to do and his uncles spray booth is fully booked and the highschool isn't available until school starts for a while.

I have heard that you can rent a spray booth? where and how?

i live in the bay area. even if you know a person who owns a shop that i could pay to rent their booth maybe. only for a max of 5 days.

thanks guys

I remember reading a webpage years ago written by a guy that painted his truck in a rented party tent, in his back yard. He made a "wall" at one end of big furnace filters, then put a couple of huge fans at the other end, to suck the fumes and overspray out. The filters kept dust from coming in.

When he was done spraying, he shut the fans off, zipped up the doors, and let the sun "bake" the paint dry. Worked great.

Never done it myself, but I thought it was a cool idea.

Some body shops rent booths, so just make some calls to some of the local shops & they should be able to point you in the right direction. You only need the booth while your spraying (3-6 hours depening on the type of paint etc. ) & you will do all the sanding and body work in a different area.

I built a booth in my garage when I painted my cruiser and it turned out ok but a real booth would have been much more effective at moving out the overspray. If I were to do it again, I would do all the body work and prep myself as well (most places will not let you spray industrial paint in thier booths since it has alot more voc's) as purchasing the paint and then have a place like Maaco or Earl Shieb spray it . There is a definate science and sequence to spraying that is best left to the profesionals for a quality job. after going thru all the work I did with body work and prep on my truck I wish i would have taken the extra step of purchasing a quality 2-stage paint instead of a single stage industrial paint (still quality paint).

I believe there is still a thread on here from about 3 years ago on my paint work. it should have alot of info in it.

If you build your own booth put a sprinkler to catch the over spray before it sticks to some thing you dont want it to. Yhe water brings the overspray to the ground. The tent thing works great.

ok i need to clear some things up.

i don't own a house so i have no property to buy or build one. out of the question

second i cannot find time to build one, I work a full time job.

but as far as where to rent one that is a good idea i should look into the local paitn shops. i only need it for 4 days max.

i already have a painter who knows what he is doing. out here a pro job costs u around 6 k. then add extra $$$ for body work

what about a Storage unit? rent it for a week, dont tell them what your doing! lol

couple of box fans with pre filters under the door.. the rest open for exhaust..

not the best, but it could work!

i work fulltime, i have no time for that. that would take days to set up and on top of that if you do get caught all my s*** gets taken away and im sure here in cali I would have a fat fine on my hands
