Hi folks,

I'm putting my splitcase back together in FJ40 project truck and need some help with the high-low shift lever. Is there a trick to get the lever (shown in the first picture below) to fit in the slot in the arm shown in the second picture? Is there something not installed right or am I doing something wrong (wouldn't be the first time on this project ;) )

Thank you,

Point the arm forward and rotate it as you bring the case halves together. Should go in, no problem.

FYI - be careful how much RTV you use, especially if its starting to dry. The additional thickness can affect the rear output bearing preload.

And get the arm bolted on the top, if you haven't already, so it can't fall into the case. That's caused no few Mudders a really bad day.

Took me 3 times to align, Watch between the cases as it comes together. Do a dry run with no sealant to see how it goes together.

Juggernaught, thank you for the info. I'll give it a try when I get my new oil seals (forgot to put the front output shaft oil slinger in place when I built it). I put the RTV on very thin just to help hold the gasket in place while trying to bolt everything together. I'll keep it in mind if I'm having issues with the preload.
