So, the speakers in my 05 LX470 soung like garbage.......yep, I've read here on the board that these typically desinigrate at some point, so I assume they are shot. Factory sub was just replaced when I bought the truck, so I'll leave that alone.

(I searched, and still have questions).

I want something that is EASY to install....minimal modification.

I know people have run Polks, and that others have run Infinity 6032si/cf which are proper 2ohm speakers and are dirt cheap online.

1) Which sound best?
2) Do these require cutting out and re-using the stock baskets?
3) If I use these (which are 2 way speakers), do I just install without a crossover and let 'em go, even though there is already a midrange and tweeter which we're not replacing in the door, so there will be some overlap of sound (should I install a crossover or disconnect the factory midrange/etc?). What about an Infinity 6030CS which has 2 components? Would that help?
4) Should I replace the amp? Royal PITA or not bad?

Relative NOOB to stereo stuff here, never attempted to replace a 3-way factory component system before;)

Thanks, Ben

Check the FAQ sticky for some good threads on speaker installs and head unit and amp replacement. Speaker sound is subjective, you'll have to decide which speakers are best. I like Infinity. I suggest not doubling up on speakers, so don't keep multiple sets functioning in the front doors. Components are a good choice for sound, but are much more difficult to install than single coaxial speakers. A call to Crutchfield will answer the rest of your questions and they will help you through an install. There's LOTS more info on this Forum that searches will find.

Ok thanks for info, believe it or not, Crutchfield told me they only had ONE speaker option for the front doors, a 3 - way component set that was $899.00 , just slightly out of my pricerange!! I'll check the stickies and see if I can find an answer to what I'm looking for. The impression I got was that people were dropping in these replacement 2 way speakers in the driver location, and leaving everything else alone, in effect doubling up some of the speaks.....
