I am in a quandry and am looking for ideas. I am replacing the spark plugs on my 98 100 series and have encountered a problem with just one of the plugs. I replaced all the plugs 107K miles ago so I decided it was time. Here is the problem. I cannot get any of my plug sockets to engage or lock onto the plug. It is the 3rd plug from the front on the driver's side which makes it very difficult to see. I thought something had fallen in and have stuck a stiff wire into the hole hoping to detect something inside and I even put the vacuum cleaner hose over the hole. Nothing has worked so far. My next move is to get some dental tools and a dental mirror hoping to see inside more clearly. Has anyone encountered this problem or have any ideas on what is going on.

Have an iPhone? I use the video with flash for close quarter inspection tasks all the time when I can't see and works great

I love the fuel line tool idea! And I like the mechanic in the video - he reminds me of my old algebra teacher!

Thanks to all for the tips but I may have not made my problem clear. I have a magnetic socket which holds the plug. I have a plug in the head that
I put in about 100K miles ago which I cannot get the socket to engage or connect. l stick the socket in and turn it but it spins freely
I know this sounds crazy. I am going to use my iPhone to take a video with the hope of seeing what is going on down in the well. I don't know
if the plug leaked and possibly carbon built up around the base of the plug. The engine now has 7 new plugs and the problem plug but runs fine.

It sounds like you aren't pushing the socket down far enough? Could you try using a standard deep well socket (without the magnetic spark plug holder) to see if that will engage the spark plug?

Did you figure it out. I had the same issue, turned out it was the coil wire had melted around the top of the spark plug. So i had to use a hanger to pull off the rubber from the plug in order to get my socket on. Took over an hour before i was able to get enough of the rubber off the plug to get it out.
