Hi All - I am looking for a spare tire crank/tool for a late '69 (model year '70) FJ55. Any ideas on locating one or if there is another more readily available tool that will work? Thanks for the assist.

Welcome to Mud if you look at the bottom of the main page you will find a FJ55 section. As for you spare tire winch check with you local Toyota dealer, just say it a later year. Good change it might be available. SOR shows a used one and special order for new http://www.sor.com/catproducts.sor?from=142b&part.number=142-56&tabpage=TAB1 A later jack handle setup might also work. I pulled a spare winch off a FJ55 years ago for my FJ45 pickup. Not sure but it may had button in the center that needs to be pushed in for the winch to turn. Not 100% sure because I have a few spare tire winches most from the 60 series and I know those don't have that button. If it does have the button not sure how the jack handle would work. Probably get better answer by asking the question in the FJ55 section.

Last I heard, those cranks were still available from the dealer. If not, we have a few spares here in Denver...

I know you would probably know the answers to these questions. The later crank handles were 1005 MM as compared to the earlier 850 MM. I know the later 1005 MM was the only one available last time I check. Would this store under the rear seat in the early FJ55s or be too long for the designed holder? If that is the case the OP might want to go used and get the correct one.

Second the winch I picked up off a early FJ55 I believe has a large metal button that needs to be pushed in for the winch to turn. Is this correct?

Thanks, great to know! I will be in touch - the local Toyota dealer can't locate one in inventory, so I'll take you up on one if you have one. (I'll drop you a PM). Enjoy the holidays!
