I'm not looking for a huge lift and I'm currently budget minded (at least for now while I'm saving up for my suspension which will probably be the radflo).
I'd probably go with 265/70/17 tires. Has anyone used the front 2"Lift Spacers from Toytec
http://toyteclifts.3dcartstores.com/Front-2-Lift-Spacers_p_305.html
combined with a similar spacer in the back (in order to allow the entire rear air suspension to travel).
Just curious if anyone has done both front and back this way? How much stiffer is the front with the Toytec spacer?
I know about the rear suspension trick but it'd be great to have full travel in the rear (for now with the air suspension) IF anyone has fabbed something for it.

As far as I know, nobody has made a spacer for the rear air bags to sit on. You could always replace the rear shocks w/ Bilstein 5100s and trick the air bags. 5100s have longer shafts than our stock shocks.

Regarding front spacers, I'm not sure but I personally wouldn't spend $140 on them. Why waste $140 on spacers when that money could go towards your coilover fund. If you really want to use spacers check some classifieds here and other 4Runner / FJ forums and find a cheap used set to hold you over until you get your coilovers.

For sure it makes sense to find some used front spacers at that price and that's an interesting suggestion concerning the 5100's.
Thanks for the response RCsGX and for having re-directed me from a different site over to ih8mud a couple of months ago. There's a wealth of knowledge and folks on the cutting edge when lifting the GX470. Been learning a lot and reading up on old threads whenever possible.
Looking forward to doing my own lift in the next few months.

If you were to put a spacer in the rear you will need to replace the shocks, otherwise you will be running pretty much at their extended length at all times.

Tacoma shocks use a smaller diameter shaft so I used a matching 10x1.25 metric die and turned them down. It was pretty simple. Something like these. http://www.eadoffroad.com/toytec-se-2-tacoma-05-up-shock-extenders
I've wheeled it like this in Moab across trails like Elephant Hill without issue; but I have a locking diff and sliders too.

Oh BTW the spacers do not make the ride stiffer. It is identical to stock but you will need an alignment of course. I have had it to 100mph lifted with 32s and it was glass smooth.

Cool, thanks for clarifying that rethreading the factory shock to fit the spacer would be as simple as turning them with a die. Do you feel like spacing the rear would be needed for logging road expeditions and the like? I won't be doing much more "offroad" then camping and hunting, so I wonder if I would need it.

Good info on the spacer with regard to ride as well.

If you will just be driving poor dirt roads you should be fine. When you get into rocks and badly rutted roads, you'll start to contact the skid plates. The real issue are the running boards. The are truly low hanging fruit and very vulnerable. Being aluminum plastic and paint, any kind of touch and they are damaged.
That's what happened to me the first serious trip out. I was used to my built 3rd gen that had a 4" lift on 33s, locked front and rear with serious armor. I mangled a running board on the bunny slope LOL.

If you want my vote, I say lift it. They look so much better.RCs looks nice "lowered" tough stance too but stock just is non committal.

That was when it was stock. I've since lifted it 2.5".

That right there is a recipe for disaster. The shock stud will rip right off in any off road condition.

I know, I personally wouldn't use those extenders. That pic is larsdennert's. I'm running 5100s out back.
