So the Wife and I are planning a week long trip during october to souther Utah to see the parks. It will be just us in my 4runner. Unfortunately the cruiser isn't going to make the trip
Anyway the plan is to camp every night except maybe grab a room one night in Moab.
So the plan is something like this
Day one, drive to Arches from SLC, and find a campsite there. Then explore a little.
Day two: Hike and bike some trails in arches and try to head out by mid to late afternoon. Head down the the Lockheart Basin road. Either camp somewhere along that road or if we have time make it to the needles area.
Day three: Arrive at the needles and do some hiking, camp in the Needles
Day 4: More hiking or biking in the Needles, leave mid afternoon and head either back up to Moab via 191 and either stay in Moab or somewhere near the Island.
Day 5. Either see the Island from the top or make a marathon run through the white rim trail. I'm not sure if we can do it in a day and all the spots have been full for some time. I think there are openinings at the very end on the western side. I'm going to call the park ranger daily to see if there are cancelations.
Day 6. Drive to Capitol reef. See the reef and camp at capitol reef.
Day 7 Drive back to SLC
It's probably the last chance I'll get to see the parks while I live here. I've already been to Zion and I'll probably get a chance to hit Bryce on another trip to Bryce/Grand Canyon. I'm planning on moving to Anchorage next summer, so I wanted to see as much as I could on this trip. What would you do differently? We are going to be taking both an inflatable canoe and our mountain bikes. Anywhere you'd recomend using either on this trip or good hikes along the way. I've got the Ron Adkinson hiking guide and was planning on picking the hikes on the day depending on how we're feeling.
Other ?'s
Is my stock open diffed 96 4runner capable of all of the trails that I've mentioned. Particularly lockhart and elephant hill? I'm a pretty decent driver. I'll also have OBA, a highlift and maybe a small portable atv winch with a snatchblock. I'm not sure if the winch is worth carying, but if I have extra room I'll throw it in. I suppose I'll have a shove also.
Also, How much water would you carry? I've got an 8gal water jug and two 1gal water coolers. Plus I can carry another 6 gallons in an old water containter, but that will probably be for the shower/dishes etc. Is that enough? Are there good places in the parks to refill?
I'm planning on either 5 or 10 gallons of extra fuel on board.
I'm also going to be carying an extra deep cycle battery as a backup. Just in case we kill the battery.
I guess that's about it. Any opinions?
Thanks

Edit: Oh, and this is a very open plan. If we find something we want to see we may stay more time in one spot and skip another.
