Greetings,
I purchased an SOR brushguard from a guy here in Atlanta that was on his 60.

Link to guard:

Specter Off-Road, Inc.-Landcruiser Parts & Accessories (818)882-1238

Its supposed to be for the 60-62 series and directly bolts onto the bumper. I cannot find any information on 60 or 62's having different size stock bumpers, but it appears that the brush guard is about .5 inches to small to fit around my 62's bumper???

Any ideas on this? Did the 62 have an option to have a slightly larger bumper than the 60?

Thanks in advance, Ive got my fogs wired and everything apart and ready and the thing wont fit...

Dustin

62 bumper is about 1/2 in taller than a 60 bumper. You can probably modify the bracket to make it work. This type of bush guard is also known as a "Damage Multiplier" because they make any front end damage you may get alot worse.

x2 on the damage ;)

For show only :D

Appreciate that, thought I was going crazy. Thing is that its going to take some welding to get it to fit or in order to modify the brackets. Seems like it shouldnt be marketed for the 60 and 62 if you have to take the damned thing to a welder to get it to fit?

On the damage x. I wonder if I should take off the brush guards arms around the lights off? I got it at a good price and wanted it to mount driving lights onto. I certainly didnt know it would cause such significant damage to my truck if an accident where to occur?

Whats the reasoning behind the damage multiplier effect? I would think I would have to hit something taller than me to push the guard into the grill and lights?

Anything in the way of a brush guard...anything that is not directly mounted to the frame relies on the oem bumper to protect the front end...which sort of defeats the purpose. The front end needs to be protect via mounting something directly to the frame.

Dont get me wrong they are useful in brushy tree limb situations.....which that may be all you need. I would leave the ears on.

Oh well hell yea :) $$$$$

I got this off a fellow cruiser owner for $100. Great price I think, but Im tempted to sell as I dont see how it could fit the taller bumper. I may have to find an alternative to mounting driving lights.

wow, i'm feeling your cruiserma.

I finally got around to installing my SROR front bumper, and....

... 3 firefighters in 3 hours blew through 8 drill bits & 45 min worth of breathing air on an air chisel that got halfway through 1 rivet...

... we have successfully cleared 3 of the 8 bumper extension rivets, and run outta lil drill bits to use as pilots...

... it's raining like a mo-fo....

.... my Daylighters are tied off around a hood bumper...

and the Deputy Chief dropped in unexpectedly, so the truck is now back outside in the rain.

What was Toyota thinking anyway, BF rivets???? [hijack over]

So, it could be worse -- you could be trying to remove 5 :censor: rivets, in the rain, in the dark.... :bang:

Driving lights r easy -- enlarge the top holes in your current bumper & wire 'em up!

BTW..

Welcome to the Madness of MUD :flipoff2:

Does anyone have experience with installing the sor brush guard on a 62? What process did you use to modfiy it?

I just removed my SOR bumper on the 62 and replaced with an ARB. The removal of the SOR bumper was simple: only removing 4-6 bolts. Regardless of what people say about the SOR damage multiplier, i actually like the look of the stock bumper with the SOR damage multiplier over the ARB.

Thanks for the reply. Did your SOR fit right over the bumper with now bending or anything? You had just the 4 bolts in place right? Im saying that my bumper is to big to fit into the groove of the SOR bumper.

If your bumper is too big for the sor hole, smoke hatchet is your friend. If the hole is too big for your bumper, it's easily shimmed with some 1/4" or 3/16 stock. What exactly do you need? I have a 60 series sor guard on my 62...well, it's not on right now, but it has been...

I have an old catalog from sor (2004). In that catalog they have a different part number for the 60 series vs. the 62 series brush guards. Their electronic catalog now does not show the 60 series brush guard, and the 62 series is in the clearance section so I guess they are phasing out these products. My guess is that you have the brush guard for the 60 series, which is different than that for the 62 series.

From the 2004 Catalog:

SOR Heavy Duty Grill & Brush Guard: #228-65 fits 8/80-8/87 60 series; #228-88 fits 8/87 to 1/90 62 series.

Wrap around Grill & brush guard: #228-360 fits 8/80-8/87 60 series; #228-362 fits 8/87 to 1/90 62 series.

Cut and weld.

Big Red1-
Unfortunately, i dont think i'll be much help. My bumper was installed/removed very easily which leads me to believe you may have a 60 SOR bumper. Not sure if you access to tools but dynosaur's post makes it seem it's definitely possible to get a 60 bumper on a 62.
