Hey, guys! I've been looking around on the forum for information about an SOR Air Pump Eliminator, but I'm not finding exactly what I'm looking for, so I thought I'd pose the question directly (please forgive me if I've overlooked a thread).
I have a 1986 FJ60 with a 2F. I bought it not running from the PO and this weekend, I got it to run on it's own (not with the help of ether, but actual fresh gasoline from the gas tank - new filters work wonders).
Once I got it started, there was one heck of a noise coming from the front of the engine and I discovered a very badly worn Air Pump Eliminator from SOR.COM rattling mightily. The shaft, not the bearing, was chewed UP! I went to SOR.COM and they don't carry this part any longer and Man-a-fre want's $160 for one. I have a couple of questions:
1. Does anyone know of a place to get a replacement part for the SOR? I'm thinking I can press out the bearing to release the shaft, but I'm not sure where to get a new shaft piece. I do like the billet aluminum bracket and would like to rebuild it if possible.
2. Since I actually have one of these things on my FJ60, does that mean I'm "partially de-smogged" since my "Air Pump" has been "eliminated?" I have plenty of vacuum hoses coming off of the carb, as well as the metal device that seems to be routing exhaust gas back into the cylinders.
3. If I don't have an Air Pump, should I simply replace the "eliminator" with an actual Air Pump or should I continue the de-smog, if it is, in fact, partially de-smogged (I'm not sure of the emissions rules for NC in this regard, so any help will be appreciated.
I can get photo's too, if needed. Thanks for the help with this.
