Would you check the location of the switch for the rear hatch and how to get at it..

The one that turns on the interior lights..

Do I have to remove the hatch latch ?

Mine needs adjustment and I would like to know how to do it or is it a "replace with a new one" type of job.

Thanks for any help..

As in when you open the hatch the switch that closes the circuit so the interior lights go on? If you know where it is i.e. "it needs adjustment", why do you need to know the location?

I have a 98 manual and I will help you but your question is a bit confusing.

Thanks.

Yes... when you raise the hatch..

I know there is a switch involved but I don't know how to get to it... It is not like a door switch, that much I know..

I am hoping I can adjust it so the door ajar light won't come on unless you SLAM the hatch closed...

Is it a mercury switch ? A switch tied in with the latch ? I just don't know..

I have looked but see no way other than just start taking things apart to find it..

Any help pointing in the right direction will help.. I have been watching Ebay for the repair manuals but so far no luck..

Well I don't know what you really want from this as you asked the same question and received answers in your previous post

Why don't you justt undo 2 screws for the handle and 4 bolts for the latch and pull it out and have a look at it, it would be a lot quicker than asking the question over again on the forum
Tailgate latch.webp

Thanks for the sage advice.. I stand corrected !

Not so much a case of wisdom, more logic I would have thought, it only took me 2 minutes to undo the 2 screws of the handle and pop off the plastic trim and snap this photo for you, but a lot longer time to then download it and get it on this forum for you, so I'm the one at fault, I logically shouldn't have wasted my time on it! EDIT (Besides, mine is a 2003, yours a 98, they could be very different, though I doubt it)

Thanks for the photo... It showed wires so I figured the switch must be there !

I took the latch out and sure enough the switch is part of the latch, but the bad part is that the latch cannot be taken apart.. it is a replace only part.

I tried a little creative reassembly and will see if I got the latch back with a little offset to allow more travel of the locking device and thus the switch...

Time will tell..

Thanks for the photo.. was what I needed !
