A buddy was generous enough to give me a a container with a soft top and bikini top. He had never used them on his truck so he didn't really know what all was in it. I finally got my top off last week, spent way to long figuring out how the soft top frame attached, got the top out of the box and then realized there was a row of snaps at the bottom. I can't find any markings on the top so I am not sure what it is. Is there a way to figure out what I need for the bottom?
Also I saw a thread with a guy drilling out his frame and putting jackets in for the channel that goes on the windshield. On that point I a) was curious if anyone has an exact size/part number for that and b) curious if it doesn't make more sense to just drill out the channel itself so that it lines up with existing holes in the frame.

You'll need to post some pictures if you want any meaningful info about the top.

Okay not quite sure how I missed the SOR tag before but that's the top. Also not sure I have the entire frame. I have it strapped/taped up right now but there are only two cross beams. I did go ahead and just drill out the channel rather than drilling out my windshield frame. We'll see if there is some reason that isn't the norm that comes back to bite me.

Appears you have a 77 or 78. What do you have along the top of your windshield, open holes or welded nuts in the holes? Either but for sure I'd you have the welded nuts I would use those before just screwing in sheet metal screws. Never seen a aftermarket channel that the holes line up with those on a FJ40 which makes me wonder are these made for jeep and sold to use on a Land Cruiser. Three holes could be used on each half of the channel and notch the center where they meet and use a washer. I have a few of the aftermarket channel somewhere and think the cord in the front of the bikini top is smaller than on the factory soft top otherwise you could use one of the repo channels made for the FST.

Does those rails have snaps on them? I can't tell from that diagram.

Where are the snaps located on your top? The only snaps I'm familiar with on that top are located on the back above the rear window-see step #11 in the installation instructions :steer:

I have threaded holes on top that fit the screws I took out of the hinges on the back so I just drilled out three holes on each half of the channel to line up with those. Feels secure enough to me. The closest hole to the center is probably 5-6 inches on each side and I just figured the tension of the top and the other holes would keep it all together. If it starts to lift up I'll add some hardware.
