How much slip are you guys running on SOA?

The current plan is to splice a 40 pinion ends with IFS CV ends together for drivelines. How much slip should I plan on? 6? 8? 12?

I am going to redrill the parking drum and ordered this today

Here's the last post and basic build sheet on the project...

Drivelines will be (flange to flange)
31" in the front
27.25" in the rear

Thanks,

That Flange from inchworm is Great for the Pinnion end, if your Fine Spline (27)
it wont work on the t-case end or Stock Pre 78 Cruiser Diffs..

Save yourself $15 and Get one from Trail-Gear, if thats what you need

Front with a SR, you will need 8" or so of slip, (Custom)

Rear stock Cruiser 4" worked fine for me!

You doing a shackle reversal or not?

If you are not doing a SR typically you will be fine with the cruiser slip shaft.

rear, stock slip is dandy

front, I "can" use as much as 8"....however, I run a center limit which doesn't effect actual travel at all, but does things a lot....highly recommended ;)

Damn, didn't see the 27 spline... 73 3 speed front output is coarse spline right?

I could order the universal drilled flange from SOR, unless someone knows a better place to get one?!

Mace
It is SR-ed. Front springs are flipped.

Woody
Interesting. How did you determine how long the limiting strap should be?

Thanks for the advice.

Andy

flex it out....my rear center limit allows about 1.5" of droop at the center, and the front is similar...

I used a chain to test it out, since I could add/remove a link easy enuf....once the length didn't effect flex, it got replaced with a strap (well, the rear did...the front is still a chain....keep thinkin I'll replace it and never get around to it.....lol)

it still gets over 5' under one tire on an RTI ramp....and uses all of the 14" stroke shocks at all 4 corners.

Try cruiser outfitters.

Don't use an IFS double carden joint. Minimal deflection possible. That setup is designed to prevent vibration, but since it never had to see axle movement at all in the stock configuration, it was not designed to allow much movement.

Dennis,
Thanks. I remembered those guys yesterday. Trying to get a hold of Kurt as I type...

Good point. I was lucky to find a drive line off an 85. From what I understand that year has a greater working angle. Jess at High Angle said it is easy to clearance later IFS years for a greater working angle though.

My thought is to use the 85 up front and a later non clearanced in the rear. My reason (I mean my guess) is that the front is going to see more travel and need the greater working angle.

TLC,
B-ham?! I am in Seattle. My chick is from your neck of the woods.

I am hoping to get some pretty good flex out of it. I would rather plan early and not use all of it than find out on the trail it is too short.

Get whatever CV you can find for a Toy. They can all be clearanced, I have a IFS mini CV on the rear of my 40 and it gets quite a bit of flex..

Trying to get ahold of you as I type :D Call me ASAP, I will be around late tonight. I would love to get your parts on the way before I head to CM tomorrow!

Thanks Kurt!

I am glad we finally got a hold of each other.

Seems like a small part but I am actualy pretty excited to see the drivelines go on.
