hi this is a newbie thread so forgive my ignorance. I am looking to do an spring over axel swap on a BJ42. I am wondering if I can use 60 series axels. The short side is the same, but the long side is at least 3"longer, so do I need longer drive shafts, longer tie rods (60 series)and to flip the 3rd member??..... If any one can help that would be awsome, thanks

Duuuuude.....You got a lot of work to do.

You can read my rig of the week, which will give you a general idea of what's involved.

You can put FJ60 axles under the truck, lots of us have done it. The rear is super easy. The front will require some extra work. I outboarded the springs (which means outboarding the mounts on the frame. The width difference is about 1.5 inches per side. Then you need to locate the right side side perch carefully, then weld it all up. You also should do a cut and turn.

What springs do you plan to use? There are advantages to using longer than stock rear springs, and lengthening your wheel base.

Your steering will be completely different, since you'll want to go high steer. I used 4x4 Labs system which is excellent, but there are many options.

I would spend a month reading all the old posts on this and similar topics.

ditto .. the best advice .. much info here and around the internet about SO.

i'm in vancouver and working as a welder and mechanic. the truck is kinda tall and i already put it on it's side once. that kind of put me off going taller... but recently someone pointed out that you can use 60 series axels, the wheels started turning...
bought another one so i have one to drive while i'm working on the other one.
tired off getting stuck on s*** that is barely visible, open diffs/ stiff springs.
plus i want to do some serious trails(ie rubicon, moab)
my truck is pretty beatten... i figure i can rebuild it as a stocker or as a monster.
