So I'm considering a SOA conversion later this summer, after I finish the SM465 swap. In order to start preparing I was wondering the following:

-Anyone on here done a Cut and Turn who'd be willing to help (maybe a HAMOM)?

-Anyone got a set of flat 40-series front springs?

-Anyone got a set of flat 55-series rear springs?

I'm thinking I'll use 4x4 Labs' Hy-Steer kit, they seem really on top of things.

I'm assuming I'll need driveshafts lengthened, anyone got a good local shop for that?

Ramon

Brakes, Inc. on New Bern Avenue for the driveshaft repairs.

Heard good things on the hysteer from 4x4 labs

Rich in Holly Springs did a cut and turn for a buddy of mine, I can bring the plasma cutter if it will help, seems very simple with the correct tools.

X2 on 4x4 labs.
extended brake lines from marlin crawler are awesome!!!!!(longer than JTOutfitters) would be good for the 55 springed rear
If you come across a set of 40 springs, i need 2 aswell.
if your lucky, when you run the SOA with 55 springs, the front driveshaft works perfect for the rear.
I may even have a cut and turned axle for you by the time you want to do this. I going fj60s i think. Ill keep ya posted

Thanks Sol, just grabbed a set from Brian K. for the front. I need to get over there and get the bellhousing and t-case. Gonna' be around any evenings this week that I could come?

I can help on doing the actual C&T, no prob.. we'll need a vice on a sturdy platform and a welder to tack things on with..

(I like to weld a piece of scrap square bar onto the axle, used to clamp it into the vice while getting the knuckles to turn)

There's a few pics from my SOA here: Spring-over/shackle reversal/wheelbase stretch

There's a guy in Salisbury that's willing to sell me a c&t housing that has a truss welded on for $50. Don't think I should hardly pass that up, even though I would really enjoy learning the process and it would be fantastic for a HAMOM. I know others will likely want to do the same in the future. What do you guys think?

Rich, I have a sturdy vise and a Lincoln 175 Welder here at my house. Do you use a cutoff wheel for the cut? I really appreciate your offer, I feel like I should take you up on it! Can you PM me w/ some times/dates in the coming weeks you might be available?

Thanks!
Ramon

Yeah, I use my trusty 4.5" grinder with the thin cutoff wheels... ya just have to not cut too deep.

Make sure the C&T is turned the right amount for your application ;)

Next weekend (14/15) is cool, Sunday the 22nd is cool, and 28/29 I don't think we have anything planned..

Let's shoot for that last weekend of 28/29th so I should have all parts together and the housing empty! I really appreciate it!

Will do!

Raymond, how much lift do you anticipate ending up with, and what size tires are you going with?

about 5" total.

I just bought 35's (BFG M/T)
