There is a garden thread but I thought Steve might want another thread to pad his post count since he has a farm now. ;)

Recently we started getting a few new animals around our house. Started with a rabbit which we then bred, but she did not take. Still on the lookout for anther few rabbits of the same breed. Rhinelander is the breed.

Rabbit hutch:

19 quail chicks soon followed which I split with a friend and now have 8. They started laying last week and we enjoyed our first scrambled quail eggs this morning.

The same week I got the quail chicks I also got 5 chickens. They are mixed breed, between Black Copper Maran, Game, and Ameraucana. They should be Easter or Oliver Eggers, but we will not know until they start to lay in the next month and we can see what color the eggs are.

After researching chickens I decided I wanted to get a few different kinds of chickens. So last month I purchased 58 hatching eggs form 2 different ladies in my area. Another guy at work has chickens and his neighbor has hatched a few batches of eggs for him with good results so I decided to let him try it and for $10 I couldn't complain. The eggs hatched on Thursday, April 25th 42 total. I went down today and picked them up as well as 2 other Cornish meat chicks. For a grand total of 44.

Almost everything I have built for the animals has been recycled, I bought wire and a few boxes of screws. Other things that relate to farm: we started seeds, oldest girls joined 4H this year and the 4H garden club as well as the 4H pullet project and we planted ~ 10 raspberry bushes and another 10 fruit trees this spring. Did I mention I live in town? ;)

Down to 1 or 2 eggs a day, out of the 5 chickens I have. Processed the quail, don't think I will try them again. Finally got my rabbits to breed yesterday, hope she takes this time. If so I will have bunnies FS at Easter. Picked up a new puppy on Saturday, Scout our pointer/lab needed a new friend. Weeded blueberry plants on Monday. Plan to finally get my rapsberries trellised soon and planning for Spring planting/garden.

Picked up a new puppy last Saturday. She will be a good friend for our GSP/Lab mix.

She is Black and Tan Coonhound and Lab mix

Cute puppy, hope the kiddos are helping out and it is not all you and the Mrs.

Here are some photos of this past year's garden. Went redneck style since it was our first year gardening in our house. Figured if it worked out and the wife liked gardening we could go back and re-do the raised beds.

Free pallets from work a bit o land scape fabric and some dirt and peat moss we had good success until the vine borers got a hold of the squash. Everything else turned out awesome with all the rain.

Got a Bio-Dome Seed Starter (60 cell) from Park Seed so I can start my seeds early this year.

Garden started, eggs going in the incubator tomorrow for hatching. First time trying to hatch them ourselves. If all works out we will have some chochin, silkie, Easter Egger, Spanish White face Bantam, wheaton Amerecauna, and Polish. Not nearly as many as last year but should have an incubator full (41). Anyone want some chicks in a month?
