I found a one owner 89' Fj62 with 230K and got a couple of questions.

How good is a 3fe? Would i be looking at a rebuild soon depending on maintenance? No rust as far as he knows (can't see any).

I've always been a Fj60 fan and this would be my first Fj62 so i don't know too much.

The a/c doesn't work, needs a rear main seal, probably a major tune-up.

The body is in good shape with no major dings or anything.

What would something like this run?

I find the 3fe in my 250K+ to be quite strong and only a little leaky. I have not had to do any thing major to the engine itself just the basic tune up stuff and fuel delivery.

The clean body is obviously a win.

As far as value, mine was a rusted heap that could hardly idle when I got it, cost me 1300 + a few grand parts and effort.

Check for the rust. Take a magnet with you. Rear fenderwells rockers, etc.

How much is the person asking? Sounds like $3K or less? Depending on how nice the body truely is. Rear main is a butt to replace from what Ihave heard and AC can be an expensive or a cheap fix.

Fj 62

I had a Champagne 1990 FJ62 and wish I never sold it...Sold to "sourcemine" about 2yrs ago now. (rats...pics no longer in his threads)
As all other Landcruisers...Check wheel wells, hatch both top and bottom in the seal areas, rain gutters...winshield area.. rear window area...antenna thats all I can think of outside.
Inside....Check window switch, all window motors, push button 4x4....My P.O. was a lady and it had never been in 4x4. Soooo I pulled the passenger seat out one day and sat on the floor..using both hands pulled almost as hard as I could and finally (POP)I got it out of 2wd....after playing with it thru the patern for about 30 min. she was shifting easly...never had a problem after.

Mods done...Replaced the OEM radio w/2001 Celica AM/FM/CD/Cassette(NICE), 2.5" BDS lift. 33x12.5x15 BFG AT

As far as the 3Fe..good motor..you will squeeze a couple more MPG than the 2F and is the same motor as the early 80 series till 92 I beleave

May have some parts here and there if you need...was going to clean out thr garage soon and will post

Good luck

With 200k+ miles i would also have the transmission checked out, i had to have mine rebuilt at about 190k, NOT a cheap fix. On the up side i had my leaky rear main seal replaced while the tranny was out.
Since i bought mine about 2yrs ago i have replaced the radiator, belts and hoses, fan clutch, thermostat, upgraded the speakers and stereo (the OEM stuff really sucks), new optima battery, CCOT lift kit, replaced vacuum solenoids for the push button 4x4(suprisingly expensive little POS, luckily found one used), new cap, rotor, pulgs and wires.
The 62 is a great truck i love the 3fe, although i wish it got better gas mileage and came with a stick shift.

Good luck with your purchase

Have any pics of this radiio in your cruiser? For some reason i thought that year had the really big ones like twice as wide?

I think values vary a lot by where you are. No rust in the midwest, big bucks. My 89 in colorado was a one owner, no rust 220k for 3100 just for comparison.
