So, I bashed up my rear tube bumper pretty bad...

anybody know any metal fabricators here in Austin or the surrounding areas so i can possibly get this pounded out and not buy a new bumper?

Hahha-
no, it's pretty bad. Here's where I did it!

Shoot, if it isn't rubbing the body or flexing the frame or something weird, I'd leave it. Trail scars rock :D

But on the other hand, if it's pretty ugly, I'd just pound it out. Good luck!

Well...

I bought the Metal Tech rear tube bumper. The primary tube, which is 1.75" .120" wall DOM-SRA roll cage tubing is what is bent. Welding in a new piece would probably leave the bumper weaker, and cost almost as much as a new bumper-maybe. The top metal plate above the bumper, that provides a level floor for entry into the back bay of the FJ, is all crumpled. One of the two square metal sheets that houses a backup sensor is also warped. I could live with the dented in bumper, but the crumpled top and warped backup plate I need to fix.

It shouldn't be weaker if repaired correctly. And, you should be able to get it repaired for much less than you are expecting, at least from the pics and your description. You've got to have a decent fabrication shop that can do this for you with as many cruiserheads that are in your neck of the woods. At least take it to a few who can look at it and give you an idea/estimate for it...

There is a local shop named "Jeep Masters". They were actually real cool, and said they will do the whole thing, including welding in a new section of tube, for $300.

Sounds reasonable and doable from the pics. I'd just make sure the "sleeve" the tubing for strength where the cut/replace. Post up the before and after pics of the repair when all is done...

X2 on the posting of results. Shoot some pics from various angles please.

Nice ding! Like Hondo said, cut out and replace. The $300 sounds a bit steep for a few feet of tube, welding wire and rattle can.

Nice to see you on the dark side Kev! When you coming out with John and I? I always got room for you in my 40!
