Installed safari snorkle but used the stock air filter. What did anyone else do? [used 3" copper and bent it to fit, welded on brackets to hold it down]

Gotta have the belts for when i flip over!! [made bracket that bolted to floor for shoulder harness]

Im getting there !

They are 15x6, just thought that 12.5 was going to be too wide.

just for your reference my 31 10.5 wore out in the center on all tires because the rim was stock . rim needed to be bigger to let the tire spread out for even wear. your snorkel looks mine as long as it does not bounce around . but im not the snorkel expert .my 62 came with mine:)

how many miles before the centers wore out?

have about 150 miles on what you see in the pictures.

Sounds like your air pressure was too high, I had 31 x 10.5 on my stock rims for 2 years with no ill wear. Then I found the dark side.

I hate to burst your bubble but mounting shoulder harnesses to the floor is a reeeeeealy bad idea. Harnesses should be mounted right behind your shouders so that when you fly forward the upper part of the harness is straight. When you mount it to the floor when you get in a collision or fly forward for some reason the forward motion of your body is turned into compression forces pressing down on your spine which is obviously not good. Like ruptured disk/permanent back problem bad. I wouldnt want to see something like that happen to you.

Snorkle looks cool though ;).

I was wondering that myself, is there a way to route the snorkel from the drivers side so that you don't have to cross the engine bay? You might have to move the headlight washer reservoir, but that could probably be done. gives you a more direct route to the air intake, preserves the cold air, and doesn't give you the awkward bend near the intake. Anybody else done this so they can give us dreamers some input?

I purchased a second air cleaner assembly from ebay. I will be cutting and welding in a new air linlet on the distributor side of that air cleaner. I plan on keeping the stock air inlet but welding a plate to seal it off. I need to keep all my smog stuff so I don't want to lose any of the brakets, vacuum connections, etc. I'll keep the original air cleaner and replace it when I go for the bi-annual smog test. At least that's my dream.

I'm not absolutley certian on this but I believe you should be able to use a diesel air cleaner assembley. Does anyone know of this arrangement?

I had mounted the belts to the floor under the rear bench seat, I thought about the physics of how it was going to work, but hope i dont get into a head on collision!

btw those are arb side steps.

did the aussie cruisers have the air filter housing like a diesel?

Nicholas

If you can weld, why cant you cut off the airhorne on the drivers side, weld a patch on, and just weld another tube or even the peice you cut off on the other side? Ive never seen a 60 air cleaner in person, but thats an idea.

BTW im glad you thought about the seatbelt thing, just making sure you were informed.

how much more clearence do you get from 33x10.5 vs 31x10.5?
