For the last couple of days I've had the windows down due to the 50 degree weather and have noticed a strange noise.

The noise comes from what seems to be the rear of the truck. It is a popping/snapping sound as if something is loose and moving around. Sometimes it is accompanied by a sort of light squeaking almost as if something is rubbing against something else. I cannot find anything under there that looks out of place.

If you guys have had any similar experience or have any ideas I'd appreciate it as I do not want something to break out in the middle of nowhere this coming spring.

Thanks,

Mike

Probably sway bar bushings.

just a guess, but could be as simple as noise coming from rear swaybar bushings

It's funny you post this as I'm noticing the same thing. I installed an OME 1.5 light lift a few weeks ago but just now started noticing a clunk/squeak coming from the rear.

I am tracking down the same squeaks and pops. Got the sway bar rubber complete, but that wasn't the full problem. Now looking at the rubber bushings on the stabilizer arms/panhard rods. or whatever they are called.

If it's not the sway bar bushings, it could also be the rubber bushings on the rear shocks. From memory, there are two rubber bushings on the top and bottom of the upper shock mount. Either of those could be old and not seating properly, causing a squeak and or popping noise as the shock mount gets compressed.

Check shock upper and lower shock bushings. Another item to check would be the rear panhard bushings. .

I also just installed an OME kit a few weeks ago, interesting.

Thanks for all of the responses. I was hoping it would be something relatively simple however I have a feeling this might be a mystery noise for a while.

Will look some more into it and post up if I figure anything out.

Can you stand on the slider and grab the roof rack and rock the truck back and forth to produce the same sound? Might be easy to track down.

Tried this however can't replicate the noise unfortunately.

Well the sway bar bushings certainly need to be replaced so we'll see if that does anything.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Remove the rear sway bar and take a short drive. You can start narrowing things down.
