I got home from work last night and this dude was hanging out on the side of my house. I thought it was pretty impressive how it could crawl around anywhere it wanted to all over the rock wall.

I'm guessing it is a Texas Rat Snake. Any other ideas what it is?

Yep, Texas rat snake. Rat snakes are phenomenal climbers and can easily crawl vertically up the side of a tree in the same manner that this one is doing on your house. One of their prime dietary items is birds therefore they've developed adaptations for climbing.

I've got one that has taken my big grill as his home. I moved him out on Sunday, but he was back the next day.

His eyes are glossed over like he's about to shed, so he's a bit ornery. Well, he could be a she. Pretty sure that it's a yellow rat snake.

So, did you jump back and scream like a little girl when you opened that grill and saw it for the first time?

It had to at least raise the hair on the back of your neck........

Honestly - no. The first year we moved here, I found a snake skin on the grill. So, every time I've ever opened it since, I've done it slowly while looking for one.

It's snake season here now, so I wasn't surprised. With that being said, if I had been walking up to the grill and had seen one right by my foot or something, I would have jumped and screamed like a girl. Snakes don't bother me any as long as I see them before I get too close.

I bet it's there now.

Yep. Still here...

lol

We'll cook whatever. I'm not gonna fire that grill up to cook one brisket, though.

Snakes are cool. We have California kingsnakes, garter snakes, and gopher snakes that float around here... have a CB cali king myself.

I think skillet has or had a Cali king that he caught.

We have chain kings around here. If I find a smaller one of those, I'd probably keep it for a while.

You want me to send you one?

I won't kill a nonvenomous one. Not sure about a venomous one with the dogs and kids running around. Hopefully, I won't have to make that call.

we have copperheads around me, and I just couldnt shoot him for sitting on the road...( and I had my grandson with me)....so....I sent him off to the woods with a warning to tell all his friends that we have too many kids and pets around here ...so stay away....and if I see any around here, I know they are up to no good and therefore an execution is in order...so now I can kill em and keep good karma

I didn't get any pics, but that same snake found his way into our chicken coop this weekend. My wife asked me to help her get it out but for some reason she took the lead and went in there with a stick. Hilarity ensued and the snake is doing just fine.

Just saw this fella while at home for lunch. Dogs were raising hell at it....
