Hey Guys

I just got a letter from the DMV that i am due for a smog.

I am curious if anyone with "the standard" dual battery setup with the resonator removed has had any problems?

Also, any issues with Aux Tanks??

Thanks

can't imagine the dual batt is an issue.
dual tanks should not be if you use the OEM cap and proper recirc etc.
Resonator... well, that I could see as an issue, esp. if the pipe is not sticking out from under the truck side or rear. They're bound to notice. But dunno is the book says it's a problem. Since all manufs seem to extend the pipe all the way out, that suggests there is some rule about that. Maybe put a $20 extension on it?

According to all my reading and comments from Dan himself IIRC, the resonator has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the emission controlls on our trucks. It's literally just a sound box, so to speak, or as the name implies, a resonator.

You should have no emission issues due to the removal of the resonator.

Dual batteries - who cares???

Aux tank - only if you don't have the correct filler neck for unleaded fuel only. They look at that to make sure it hasn't been tampered with to allow burning of leaded fuels.

...but as Dave said, we'll patiently wait for your answers Kevin.

Hah! This thread almost made me laugh...try stuffing a turbo in there too....

I think it absoluteley depends to a great degree the nature of the shop and the specific guy/gal actually doing the test. Some folks are hyper-vigilant and seem to wish they had been a police officer or maybe work for the FBI/CIA....

Others just go strictly by the lowest common denominator. We (80-series owners) are lucky in that there is no "load" test, so it is really just a tail pipe sniffer test.

From my experience (I've smogged twice here in CA), make sure your timing is in factory spec, gas cap and cover are proper and that's about it. I've had the dual batteries and never got any questions. I've had the aux fuel tank and never had any questions. My exhaust is far, far far from stock and never got any questions. This last time I did have to provide the CARB info for the turbo. The only question I got was about the snorkel.

I just started my dual battery setup yesterday.. (same setup as Bostons). Anyhoo i had a quick question.... what did you guys do about the bracket on top of the air cleaner that you bolt the resonator too? Did you just bend it out of the way or cut it off? It's in the way of the battery tray wall.

Well, i didnt think/mean to imply that the dual bats would effect anything, i was thinking of the resonator being moved associated with it! :)
