Smittybilt XRC8 any good?

The Smittybilt XRC series winches are T-Maxx clones and very similar or identical to many other imported planetary winches. People will say you get what you pay for. True enough, and my experience is that you can get a pretty good winch from Smittybilt at a very reasonable cost.

I'm real happy with my XRC12. Just pulled my little brother out of the ditch last week, which is the only real action it's seen since the install. For a 60 series, you might consider the larger capacity of the XRC10 or XRC12. But with careful use, an 8k winch will get you out of a jam in most cases.

There are two things you can do to get the most out of a winch. Do a good install and don't abuse the winch. Those two things are the solution to most problems users report with winches, no matter what their brand.

Just a little more confirmation, I have the SB 8k on my 80 and it has worked great. Very happy with it. Plan to buy another for my trailer.

i have an XRC 8 as well... its been fantastic and had it in deep water submerged with no issues whatsoever

One of the essential functions of a winch is to be ready to go, whenever it's needed. I had some thoughts on this topic in this thread:

The info there will definitely apply to the XRC8 and -10, although illustrated with pics of my XRC12, but more generally applies to any planetary design winch, as they are all very similar internally.
