cruising along in the bj62 yesterday and hmmmm. something doesn't feel right...so I pull into a parking lot and just as I am pulling to a stop... SNAP...tie rod tube broke  :crybaby: ...rusted right through. I had looked at it a onth ago and saw some corrosion so I hit it with the hammer and it was solid or seemed to be  Said to myself will get a new one next month .
Well one is being fabbed up right now at a machine shop ...bigger and solid instead of hollow !
Probably something that gets overlooked and passed by quite frquently , bad design from toyota in a way that it is not sealed and allows water to get in the tube and rust it out.....plenty strong in its design but that one downfall is enough to make it a bad day.
I am counting my lucky stars cause I was not cruising down the highway , and also was supposed to be going on a road trip with the young fellow tomorrow! I had also just droped him and his sister off at school !

All I can say is WHEW

Yep, they are hollow. I replaced mine when it started to corkscrew during an alignment.
