I have an '71 FJ40 with a 350 swap. Carb has a base bolt pattern 3.25" by 1 7/8". I'm having trouble finding a replacement Carb with auto choke that will fit. I'm starting to think I had a Marine Carb on the engine. Can't tell what year my engine is but am guessing it is pre 1992. Any advice is appreciated as I'm new to all this! Thx

Have you considered changing intakes to something more modern? It would give you a lot more carb options.

No, I haven't but that's a good idea and something I might take on this fall or winter. My goal is to get this running for the season then regroup and prioritize what I need to do on this engine to get it more fine tuned. Just looking for something to get me back on the road quickly.

I'm no GM expert but I wonder if it's a SMALL BASE Rochester 2G. (There is a large base as well. ) I put a small base 2G on my Flathead Ford. I got it from Rock Auto. There is a 2GC and other versions which is the choke types. I bought a manual choke 2G.

I think they came stock on the old Chevy 283 engines.

If it is a Rochester 2G, they are actually good carbs and getting harder to find for guys like me that put them on old Flathead Fords. Maybe get a kit for it?

I think you're absolutely right. It's a 2g. I'm looking to replace it for something with an auto choke but the small bolt pattern is killing me. I'd consider selling this one if interested. Thanks for the response!

There ARE versions of this with the auto choke.

A2GC is an auto choke with the choke unit attached to the carb.

The 2GV is also auto choke but with a divorced choke that is in the intake manifold with a rod that goes up to the choke plate.

You need to find a small base 2GC. Just google it and find the applications and search for a reman. Like I said I found mine on Rock Auto but I WANTED the manual choke like you already have.

It might be easier for you to find a SBC intake and carb you like faster and cheaper than finding the small base 2GC. They are out there though and they are good carbs. There are a few specialty carb shops online that specialize in these and other old carbs. A few popped up on a quick Google search.

Here's some good info. Carburetor kits, parts and manuals - https://carbkitsource.com/tech/Rochester/TwoJet-index.html

IIRC gm used the 2 barrel in some cars with larger small blocks like the 307 and 350 as well. if that is truly 350 cubes then I will strongly second the comments above and I bet you would be happier finding a used 4 barrel dual plane intake and pairing it with just about any no frills edelbrock or Holley carb to be had affordable.
