My parents are retiring, and I have to clear out my Cruiser parts stash that I have been storing at their house for the last 15 - 20 years.

First up, I have an SM420 transmission attached to a 3 speed Land Cruiser transfer case via a 1 inch plate adapter. It is also attached to a 3 Speed Land Cruiser bellhousing, allowing it to be bolted to an F or 2F engine. I bought it in 2000 as a set in Southern Virginia for $1000, and it has sat in my garage for the last 15 years. I also have a 3 speed front driveshaft slip yoke, the SM420 shifter, and a Charley Glabe designed adapter to fit standard FJ40 transfer shift linkage to the SM420 that cost another $100 15 years ago.

Asking price is $600 for the complete set. Located in Hunt Valley, Baltimore County, Maryland. Local pick up preferred, but we can talk.

First gear on this trans is 7.05:1, low range in 3 seed transfer case is 2.313:1, so with 4.10 diffs, crawl ratio is just under 67:1. Consensus is that that's just about perfect with an F/2F motor.

I found a whole bunch of research material from when I first got the SM420 and transfer case that is for sale. Including a 13 page detailed installation guide I printed out from the web in 1999.

I also found a copy of a 1995 Toyota Trails article from Gary Bjork about installing the SM420 to a 3 speed transfer case.

I've never done anything with SM420's, how is the SM420 machine aligned to the Landcruiser 3 speed bellhousing ???

You can machine an adapter ring that fits on the SM420 bearing retainer. From my notes, it looks like the SM420 bearing retainer is 4.684" and the LC 3 speed hole is 5.036" So you use a ring with a wall thickness of 0.176" machined 3/8" plate

You also need one on the snout. A sleeve to fit over the snout is not hard.

Ok, that's what I thought, just didn't see any of that in your photos???
