I don't post too much in the modern section for my wife's 2000 4runner, but it is doing something more lately I'd expect more from my older FJ40...it requires a little gas to get it cranked.

I'm used to just jumping in the 4 runner and cranking it up with nothing except turning the key. What I've noticed lately if I do that it stutters out / doesn't crank until I give it a little gas and then cranks up fine.

Any tips I should try...adjustments / fluid additives etc that folks have found to solve this issue?

When's the last time you had the starter contacts replaced? Maybe new contacts or new rebuilt starter is in order (go OEM rebuilt only).

The throttle is not attached to the starter circuit, so it must be a coincidence. Try next time just turning the key and waiting. Does it click ever?

x2 on the contacts.
There is a link to a thread on replacing the starter contacts w/ pictures in my sigline.
