I don't currently have a body lift, but may do one after my suspension lift down the road. My question is that obviously if the body is up, you would want to take advantage of the extra clearance by moving the sliders up. Is that usually done, does it matter that much, and how would you do it if it were to be done? Would the sliders have to be custom you think? Thanks!

Unless you wanted a gap between the sliders and body equal to the amount of body lift you put on, then you would have to have sliders custom built IMO. If you don't mind the gap then no worries but if you're going to go through the trouble of lifting the body then having custom built sliders shouldn't be an issue...

Out of curiousity why do you want a body lift on top of a suspension lift? I've never read about anyone doing a body lift on an 80 but it isn't just a matter of putting on some spacers and calling it even. Even a body lift on a 40 can be a royal PITA and I imagine an 80 could be much more difficult.

Several people have done body lifts, and all appear to be happy with the results. Most fear body lifts due to urban legends and such. After I get my 38.5" boggers, I may do a 2-3" body lift depending on how much fender trimming it would save me.

I plan to do the ome 2.5" medium lift. After that I'll see where I'm at once my 33" Toyo MTs run out. I want to then step up to a 35 with gears. It seems some rub 35s with 2.5" and some don't on here. So if necessary I'd do a body lift to compensate. And/or trimming. I'd like to keep most of the weight of the rig low but fit the largest tire (obviously). The gap itself wouldn't bother me, but not taking advantage of all available clearance would. Thanks for the info!

I want to do the exact same thing. I figured if the bumpers and sliders looked goofy, then I'd address it. A 1" body lift probably wouldn't make things look too bad.

In addition, you get some extra clearance for exhaust routing.

I did it, 2" body...sliders look fine actually better...front bumper looks okay, rear is custom thanx to Luke at 4x4labs give him a call

Great info as always! I guess in reading what people have had to go through in doing a body lift on a 40 and getting it to look right made me figure the 80 would be that much worse.

Erratic, check with Romer re: the rub. IIRC he has the OME 2.5" lift and had 33's and now is up to the 35 Toyo MTs. I've got the 285 Toyo MTs right now with no lift but so far it hasn't left the pavement :frown:

Your rig is sweet (ROTW). What are you running? J's and 35's? Any pics of the sliders w/ the 2" BL?

I am running a 2" body lift to clear my 11.00x16 (38.5x11x16) Michelin XLs. I used weld-on sliders and just adjusted them to have the proper clearance below the rocker panels. I would assume that bolt-on sliders would not be as easy to adjust. You can also see the gap after to body lift in relation to my ARB bumper. I love the body lift and it was rather easy to install.

I used weld-on sliders since I have a 2" body lift installed to clear my 11.00x16 (38.5x11x16) Michelin XL's . I would inmagine that bolt-on sliders would be a bit more difficult to raise to match the 2" body lift. I used multiple jack stands to position the sliders where I wanted them and then C-clamped them to the frame before welding them on. Positioning them so the clearances front and back and with the right amount of clearance between the slider and the rocker panel was the most time consuming part of the install. The body lift was much easier and only took me two days from start to finish.

The rear bumper ends still need some work once I figure out how far back I want/need to cut them. You can see by one of the picks that the body lift with the ARB bumper, IMHO, doesn't look that bad. The headlights are not effected at all.

The sliders I used came from Stubs Welding. If you don't mind weld-on sliders these are very heavy duty and very reasonably priced.

Nice rig! What brand of body lift did you use and what kind of work or modification did you do?

I used a 2" lift bought from Roger Brown. I had to trim the lower part of the radiator shroud to allow clearance for the fan. I am considering an electric Ford fan that are so popular in the future. I destroyed the rear most driver's side body mount because of rust. This was replaced with a new one. The transfer case shifter was cut off and rotated 180 degrees then welded. This was needed so the shifter lever would not hit on the linkage under the center console. Without doing this I was not able to put the truck in low range. I did remove all the interior seats to get at all the body mounts. Other than this, the install was very simple. It took me two days working alone in my garage. I am very happy with it. An additional benefit is that I gained extra room to run a 3" exhaust system with a single cat tucked up higher for better protection.

i think if you go with 1" you wont have to deal with too many issues. things will line up better...

Crusher, my rig doesn't look like that anymore...
Roger Brown is the way to go for the body lift, he is great and has all the info you would need on his site

Friends don't let friends use body lifts :flipoff2:

WHY? Is it b/c they don't want them getting too "high" :flipoff2:

Holy $#!T. Big difference. Would you kindly point me to where you have your rig spec'd? (Other than 'outdated' ROTW)

Methinks you should do a ROTW pt.2. NICE RIG!!

A quick ROTW just for you...

96 fzj80
locked arb frnt & rear
Slee 6" setup no shocks. 1.5" spacer in the front and 3/4" spacer in the rear.
King Shocks custom relocated shock mounts
38xToyo M/T on streetlocks
4x4 Labs rear bumper
IRONPIG belly skid plate (everyone with an 80 should have one IMO)
Link sliders weld on
AMMO Chopped edition front bumper used to be an ARB
Laptop GPS w/topo and street
Cobra CB
Alpine sound with 6.5 front components and bazooka tube in back, Hifonics amp
4 Hella blk magic across the roof, home made rack
2 hella 550 in the rear swivel mounted
2 hellas in the front bumper

That's about it...nothing special, just what happens when you like to keep yourself busy with your truck and you have good friends (Ian, Freddie, Ammo, DJ) who help you do stuff to it (saving on installs was a huge help for me). Not to mention this site, which is always giving new toys and ideas to play with. I love this stuff because it just never ends and there is always something to do.

cheers:beer:
