Seeing as I forgot to air and dry my wet tent from the last time I used it I am considering trying the sleep in the rear of my truck with Andrea this time. What is the best way to do it?? I'll be bringing an air mattress. Should I take the 2nd row of seats out and put something in the hole or leave them in and fold them up??? How does everyone else do it?
With your height, Al, I think Jerry's right. I barely fit diagonally in the back of the 4Runner with the back seats folded forward. Granted, the 80 is a little bigger, but you're a good bit taller than me too. You might be able to do it if you bend your knees a bit. I don't know about the back seats in an 80 though. Do they tumble forward and leave a flat deck to the tailgate like the 4Runner's do?
I'm still amazed you can fit behind the wheel Al. I'll confirm, you won't be stretching out. I tested this in Emma's and I would have to sleep diagonal, and it would have been tight. I suspect if you want to stretch out in the back of something you had better start building up an ambulance or hearse, or cargo ship.
I've read a few threads now that says with the 2nd row seats removed and stuff to put in the foot wells you have over 7 feet of room from the front seats to the back, i'm going to try it when I get home.
We built a set up for the 91 80 and removed the 2nd row seats. It worked great for us and I almost 6 feet tall. It is 2 pieces so you can install the 2nd row seat again and leave the rear part only.
If you are interested I can show it to you and if you like it may sell it since I dont longer have the truck any more...it gives you lots of room for storage underneath.... I rather sleep in the car than had to set up tents...
