Skinny tire pressure?

I'm running 235/85/16 (10 ply) snows on split rims on my '99. I've been experimenting with tire pressures and I'm coming up with low 40s all around since 45 is a little harsh and 40 is a little mushy. I'm not sure what that'll mean for tire wear and life, though. If anyone is running these or 7.50R16 (same bias ply size) tires, what pressure(s) are you running?

Check your psi cold vs hot.

Correctly inflated radial tires have 8-10% psi increase between cold and hot. So if your cold psi is 45, hot should be 48-49. If it is going up more then 10% your sidewalls are taking a beating and heating up the air/psi too much. Under 8% means it's over inflated which (can) affect treadwear.

That being said, most people with e rated tires like to run overinflated for the firmer on road feel and for when they tow. Personally I adjust the psi if I need to tow.

Thanks Nick, I've never heard of doing that before. It makes sense because it should give an indication of under inflation since the tire flex will create excess heat. I'm anxious to give it a try. Im used to drawing a line across a performance tire during auto crossing to see how much roll a tire gets but wasn't so sure how it would translate into a truck tire. Thanks for the tip.
